VINTAGE 2009
2009 began with an early spring; warm, sunny days allowed an optimal germination. In April, significant rains were very good for the soil to face the hottest summer months.
The flowering season started around May 20 for “early varieties” and ended up on june the 20th (Cabernet and Sagrantino).
The production potential was slightly below average levels especially for Sagrantino and Grechetto: the heavy rains at beginning of the year created some troubles to the differentiation (of the flower) process; on the other hand, Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot did not suffer of the same trouble.
The optimal climate between June and late July ( warm and sunny) encouraged a perfect shoot growth and an abundant foliage.
Harvest periode:
for Chardonnay Aug. 20 (started) followed by other white varieties
Sangiovese – around the 25th of September
Cabernet Sauvignon – early ripeninig
Sagrantino
The maturation of the Sagrantino was very slow and we decided to wait till the perfect maturation of polyphenols: this stretch of time during the final stage of maturation of the grapes, gives as a result, wines with a great aromatic complexity and structure as well as great stability on the color.
On October 10 over the 80% of Sagrantino vineyards had to be harvested, the harvest ended up only on October 28th marking a very late harvest.
this will give the wines the chance for a great evolution, incredible structure and possibly high alcohol content.
